A good neighbour wouldn’t try to force border opening

Re: Restrictions at U.S. border to remain in

place until end of July, Trudeau says, June 18 Where was western New York Democrat Brian Higgins when former U.S. president Donald Trump was laying sanctions and extra duties on Canadian goods?

Did he have anything to say about Canadian-U.S. relations then?

A good neighbour knows when to put his two cents in and when to keep his opinions to himself. A good neighbour knows when to support his neighbour and when to back off and let that neighbour take care of his own backyard.

Only 20 per cent of Canadian adults have been fully vaccinated, and that is not enough to protect us. As everyone should be well aware, the vaccines do not provide 100 per cent protection.

Imagine if one of Higgins’ constituents comes to visit his property here and unknowingly brings the virus back to the U.S. with him.

He could infect his neighbours, or anyone at the grocery store, hardware store or restaurant patio he visits here and then the virus spirals out of control again.

While it is sad many people haven’t been able to come to their vacation properties since March 2020, we are still in the clutches of a worldwide pandemic and, until more Canadians are fully vaccinated, it is not safe to open the borders. Be a good neighbour, Mr. Higgins. Patience is a virtue.
