A 32-year-old Welland man was arrested and charged after a vehicle repeatedly rammed another Tuesday night, causing one to strike a utility pole and home, Niagara Regional Police say.

Police said the incident is believed to be related to domestic violence.

Police, Welland Fire and Emergency Services and Niagara Emergency Medical Services were called to King and Lincoln streets at about 11:20 p.m. for a reported two-vehicle collision with injuries.

When officers arrived on scene, they learned a Dodge Ram truck had intentionally collided multiple times with a Dodge Charger.

As a result of the collisions, the car was forced into a hydro pole and a house on Lincoln Street just east of King Street.

The male driver of the truck fled the area.

Police said a man in his 30s driving the Charger was treated and transported by paramedics to hospital with minor injuries. A male passenger in his 30s, who had been in the Ram, was also taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Officers found the truck and the suspect driver parked in a cemetery in Thorold near Highway 20 and Merrittville Highway at 1:15 a.m.

The 32-year-old man was arrested without further incident, police said.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics to be assessed for injuries from the earlier collisions and was medically cleared.

He was later taken to the prisoner management unit in Niagara Falls.

Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $15,000 each. The value of damage to the utility pole and house, 181 Lincoln St., is yet to be determined said police.

The 32-year-old Welland man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop at the scene of an accident, and fail to comply with a probation order.

Police said the identity of the accused is not being released as it may identify the victim.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information is asked by police to call 905-688-4111 ext. 1023300.
