LAFAYETTE’S FRIGATE OF FREEDOM

The frigate Hermione arrives at the port of Bayonne, southwestern France, for renovation on Thursday. The vessel, a reproduction of the 1779 Hermione, achieved fame by ferrying Marquis de Lafayette to the U.S. in 1780. Lafayette was a French aristocrat who fought in the American Revolutionary War, commanding American troops in several battles against the British.
